Storm cuts power in Twin Cities, temporarily shuts down MN State Fair

People across the Twin Cities area and at the Minnesota State Fair are seeking shelter from a severe storm rolling through the area Monday evening.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the metro area until 7:45 p.m., warning of winds reaching 70 miles per hour and possible hail.

The State Fair, now in its fifth day, encouraged attendees to use weather shelters on the fairgrounds. The fair announced that rides, attractions and some vendors temporarily closed for the weather.

As of 7:30 p.m., Xcel Energy reported more than 65,000 customers were without power in the metro area.
